In-tank filters are rainwater filters which are installed directly within the rainwater tank.
The majority of filters have a rainwater inlet, clean water outlet, and waste water outlet. Usually a pipe leads the cleaned water into the calmed inlet installed at the base of the tank (which also acts to support the weight of the filter). The waste water outlet must be connected to the surface water sewer or soakaway.
Only total retention filters do not have a waste water outlet. They collect all debris in a basket, which then has to be emptied regularly. Total retention filters are typically used for infiltration systems and sometimes for the collection of rainwater for use in the garden or irrigation systems.
